#13 Adding Personal Touches to Our Remodeled Door County Vacation Condo

When I decided to remodel our Door County vacation condo, my goal wasn’t just to create a beautiful space; it was to craft an inviting retreat where guests would feel right at home. I wanted to go beyond the furnishings and fixtures to add a little magic in the details - the personal touches that make a place memorable.

Here are some of the ways I personalized the space to ensure every guest’s stay feels warm and welcoming:

Custom Coffee Mugs for Morning Moments

One of my favorite additions to the condo is a set of custom coffee mugs. Each mug is oversized and speckled blue, reminiscent of the serene waters of Door County. Designed to perfectly complement a slow morning, these mugs are ideal for enjoying Door County Coffee. Enjoy sipping on the back deck or curled up on the sofa with a book after a walk in the park.

A Guest Book to Share Memories

I included a beautifully bound guest book in the condo’s living area, inviting visitors to share their experiences. There’s something magical about flipping through its pages and reading stories from others who have stayed here. I hope guests write about their favorite Door County activities—kayaking on Lake Michigan, exploring Peninsula State Park, or indulging in the area’s famous fish boils. It will become a living document of joy and connection, and I will be thrilled to see it grow with each passing season.

Thoughtful Local Touches Throughout

Beyond the mugs and guest book, I’ve sprinkled in other local touches that celebrate the uniqueness of Door County. The bedroom features artwork by a regional artist, Vicki Rawlins, from Sister Golden in Fish Creek. She’s been featured on the TODAY show. Sister Golden, along with other spots, are featured in a framed map of my favorite walkable spots.

Making It Feel Like Home

For over 20 years, I’ve been designing spaces that provide beauty, happiness, and comfort. I’m so excited to share my design with our guests. Ultimately, what sets our condo apart is the intention behind every detail. I want every guest to feel like they’re stepping into a space that’s unique, not just another rental. I’ve thought about how to make your stay special.

So, whether you’re here for a couple’s getaway, a family adventure, or simply some quiet time to recharge, I hope my personal touches bring a little extra joy to your time in Door County. Don’t forget to enjoy your coffee in one of our mugs and leave a note in the guest book—we’d love to be a part of your story, even just for a little while.
